|Asset Monitoring & Visualization|
Asset management and tracking is an important activity for many organizations that extends across many different departments, management levels, and locations within an organization. Yet, a significant number of organizations are using manual asset tracking methods despite the consequences of misidentifying an asset: shutdowns, delays, and rising costs. This is especially true in mission-critical activities like MRO, where diagnostics are critical and variability is inherent in the system.
According to a study conducted by real-time locating system (RTLS) vendor WhereNet [Bar Scan], 78% of companies reported that operations personnel perform at least one search per day for assets, with 25% reporting more than 10 searches per day. The survey, completed by 146 operations managers, engineers, and IT executives, found that 84% of respondents still use manual asset tracking techniques. More significantly, 100% of respondents admitted that their data capture information was inaccurate: the result of human input error or improper or missed scans.
KBSI has researched and developed a number of methods and technologies for monitoring and visualizing business assets in a number of different funded initiatives. We've implemented solutions in several industries for several different research topics including monitoring and tracking maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) assests for the Air Force, a system for planning and monitoring manufacturing and repair processes for a commercial shipyard that uses wireless handheld devices, and web-based system for tracking blood supply inventory among networks of U.S. blood centers.
